There are a few spices that we can add to our daily food intake, both to enjoy the many health benefits they offer and the differing tastes they give to our often bland 'diet' food.

As we go about our day, eating clean and sticking to our game plan aimed at improving our physique or creating a healthier body, many of us adhere to the practise of using the absolute minimum amount of spices.

This is predominantly out of fear for the potential condition-altering state of water retention that they can cause.

However, athletes and physique-conscious individuals need to realise that spices are not the enemy as they’re never the sole contributor to water retention. In fact, insufficient water intake is most often the major culprit. With that said, there are a few spices that we can add to our daily food intake, both to enjoy the many health benefits they offer and the differing tastes they give to our often bland ‘diet’ food.

Of particular interest, is the ability of certain spices to improve metabolic function. A study conducted in Canada has show that using the right spices enabled people who included them in their meals to burn more calories – up to 1000 calories – in comparison to those who did not add spices to their food.

Here are a few spices that I highly recommend as they are not only enticing to the taste buds, but also offer an array of favourable benefits to our bodies:
